2 sides to the story: NTU stabbing case more to it?
I read a link on tomorrow.sg, about the stabbing incident of the professor in NTU.

http://izreloaded.blogspot.com/2009/03/really-curious-case-of-david-widjaja.html

The above youtube video is the NTU student's father and brother being interviewed on an Indonesian news channel or something.

I don't have any firm standing on this like, "OH! THAT STUDENT'S THE F-ED UP ONE!" or "OH! THE PROF MUST BE F_ED UP ONE!"

I'm more like, " OHHHHHH, why our media like that one."

To think I used to think our newspaper is a super reliable source of news to find out two sides to a story. Now, I find their notions being rebutted everywhere.

Today's papers got two more shootings somemore -.-

You see ah, sometimes right, I won't really fully sympathize with the victims, albeit NO ONE deserves such an ending, but do you people still remember the Korean shooter guy in the states?

Here's
the wiki page.

Now this one, I symathize with the shooter, true, he's an asshole , he gunned down many innocent people, however did anyone ask WHY?

Was he seriously the stereotypical person who got mocked at by strangers and rich kids every single day? The dude who was the butt of all mean jokes and pranks?

If so, why the hell won't he snap? Every one has a breaking point, we each choose in our different way to break out in anger, but did anyone bother to know him better to know that he has such violent thoughts?

Like I said, I am not saying HE'S RIGHT, but I am saying, listen to both sides of the story first. The parents, friends & relatives of the victims have every right to hate the shooter to his inner core and pray fervently he's paying it out someway or the other, but again, there is no smoke without a fire.

Now , TERRORISM, however, I AM SUPER IRRITATED AT THEM, and they deserved to be shot in the leg first, then in the head.

I DON'T CARE WHETHER THEY WANT TO GET THEIR MESSAGE ACROSS CLEARLY AND THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH WEAPONS TO DO IT.

I DON'T CARE IF THEY ARE FIGHTING WITH ROCKS.

IF OTHER PEOPLE CAN SURVIVE IT, WHY CAN'T THEY?

JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE FIGHTING FOR SOME FALSE SENSE OF BRAVADO OR SOME WARPED RELIGIOUS CAUSE?

ESP this issue,

till today I still remember this photo

You all better remember it.

I flipped through pages of images from the Beslan School hostage crisis to find this one.

Showed a father weeping when he identified his child among the hundred over body bags of dead children.

THIS I CANNOT UNDERSTAND.

You want to take it out , take it out on the bloody people you're handling.

Not on those that cannot eve protect, or had nothing to do with it in the first place!

Gah, anyway digressing from the NTU case. Go read his article, a lot of interesting points noted.

politics
Although I have been known to regard certain government policies or practices with disdain, I must say some blog entries have been well done and some are just idiots complaining non-stop to be spoon fed.

Certain issues I really think the government should focus on other than the economics side (i;m lousy with math, shut up.)

- Education policies.

I went for a bloody useless training session at the MOE Teachers' network center along Grange road yesterday.

I was SO sleepy during that thing la.And was EXTREMELY BORED.

So lunch was with a colleague of mine, a senior and he was saying that Singapore has a LONG way to go before excelling other countries or changing their education policies.

Such as the "meritocracy" way of things like how every school entry is based on marks, even university.

He was saying that other countries, in universities, the first 2 years they can study practically everything, including electives from other courses and such, by the 3rd year, they get to change their major if they actually found their calling in another faculty.

For our case its more about , " Get the results first then come talk" case.

You could say that those that didn't fare well in their exams serve them right, or that if wehave the discipline to get good results for the basic stuff like English, science and maths, we would have the discipline to excel in everthing (E.G. Sports school).

My only response to that is don't be naive.

And the fact that our university fees are one of the world's most expensive:

http://sunchair.blogspot.com/2009/02/nus-ranks-as-one-of-worlds-most.html

And that even though we are contributing significantly to CDAC they cannot help us as much as how Mendaki can help the Malay students.

I was looking around that day at the financial help that Uni students can receive and really, the govt got to open their half closed eyes at this issue.

- The politcal/opinion issues

E.g: The Straits times articles and censorship although not as bad as other countries, it has much to improve on as well as the iron clamp loosened from citizen views.

You could say that this may be done for our own good, but doesn't it equal to ignorance is bliss?

Like that Dr Chee dude, I don't say I support him but the fact he keeps on getting slammed into jail for voicing out his opinion is rather disturbing. We have no freedom of speech and if we criticise we get slapped on the wrists. Where is there space for improvement then?

Oh and the MDA?

WHAT A JOKE.

Look how they stuck their foot in their mouths recently:

STRAITS TIMES ARTICLE

TV licence fee among world's lowest
WE REFER to Mr Lee Kwun Lam's letter last Friday, 'Lopsided?'. Mr Lee had compared the costs of property taxes and TV licence fee. Both forms of fees, however, are imposed on separate utilities and are subject to different considerations. Thus, to make a direct comparison between the two would not be meaningful.

Read article for full story.

This was in response to a forum letter stating that his property taxes after rebate was equivalent to the TV license fee and found it rather exorbitant.

The article in response set off a furore with people saying that it was crap, why?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_licence
Taken from HWZ forum:

MDA said "TV licence fee among world's lowest" when so many people asked to lower or scrap the S$110/year TV licence fee, but from below site, Singapore, Japan, Korea are the only countries in Asia still collecting TV licence fees.

But in Japan and Korea, there are so many tv stations and the tv programmes are much better quality! Japan TV licence is more expensive but in Korea, it is only S$30/year.

Why not compared to Malaysia, Australia, India, Brunei, Thailand and Indonesia?

Malaysia Free!
Australia Free!
India Free!
Brunei Free!
Thailand Free!
Indonesia Free!

And there you have it, foot in mouth.

HOWEVER,

this person takes the cake.

I chanced upon it from tomorrow.sg

Imagine you have a degree, and were working as a manager drawing a monthly pay up to $4,000. Which one of the jobs above will you apply for? Admin assistant? Sales executive? Or telemarketer?

If you were a System Application Manager from Sony, are you ready to exchange your IT skill with Sales skill so that you could be a Sales Executive?

If you were a Production Engineer from Chartered Semiconductors, are you ready to attend a training course to become a Nail Station Manager?

If you were a Financial Manager from Citibank, are you ready to work as an Accounts Assistant in the Shipping industry?

Eh, WHY THE HELL NOT?

Is it better to stay at home and eat, sleep shit and let the bills grow?

Is it really wrong to just get a job below your qualifications while searching for a better prospects while at it or just to ride out the difficult times?

I think that even though our country is in recession, the government is doing quite a good job of it at the moment, they have yet to buckle & break or disappoint, why talk so much?

And you can see from the comments of the page, much people had the same opinion as I.

However one particular comment by James , saying that we are beggars in a suposedly first world country.

Noting that us singaporeans are always in a vicious cycle of getting paper qualifications and working and working.

Well, go take a look la.

BORED.

Today in the afternoon while going down the stairs to take the elevator and untangling my earphones at the same time, I almost walked into a lift shaft that has yet to be done. I wouldn't have fallen down the shaft as there was sort of a barricade like a waist high fence? Though I do not know how sturdy the barriers were but WTH, why those workers nv close the door in the first place!?!?

I was like, STUNNED and stood rooted to the ground for a few good seconds to comprehend where the hell was I.

Oh well!

BACK TO WORK. URGHHHHHHHH!Feels good but I hate doing Back logged work! Don't we all!

Dang.

I feel so bored recently, I've already watched all of my back up stashes of shows. No show to watch anymore =\

SIAN!

Oh, guess who joined us last minute!

HEEHEEHEE!
